Póros
( Highly Recommended ) A visit to Póros gets you two islands for the price of one. Two separate small islands are joined by a causeway. You are also just 400m from the mainland across the passage or ford (póros) that gives the island its name. Only an hour from Athens, Póros naturally gets as busy as the other Argo-Saronic islands. For a lovely escape, cross to the mainland and walk to the lemon groves of Limonodhassos, where 30,000 trees perfume the air and paths meander through the groves up to a small taverna serving fresh lemon juice. Back in Póros Town it's also possible to meander through some of its narrow back streets, to visit the town's small Archaeological Museum, or sit in the waterfront cafés and tavernas watching boats and people come and go. Some quite large boats dock in Póros, and as the town's houses tumble right down to the waterfront, it is strange to see people on deck at the same level as some of the houses. In the interior of the island you can see the scant remains of a 6th-century Temple to Poseidon, but Póros is more a place for enjoying modern holiday life than for the ancient past.
