What to Do in Three Forks

Three Forks was a favorite Native American hunting ground near the headwaters of the Missouri River. In 1805 Meriwether Lewis and William Clark documented their exploration of the beginning of the world's longest river system. Sacajawea (Sacagawea), the wife of one of their guides, was kidnapped and raised by the Minnetaree. A plaque in Sacajawea Park downtown commemorates her contribution to the success of the Lewis and Clark expedition. A statue, commissioned by the Three Forks Area Historical Society in 2005, depicts Sacajawea with her baby.
