Campground Overview

Introduction

Individual cabin rentals and a small group site are available in Cabin Camp 3. This forested camp was constructed by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s. It is also listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Cabin Camp 3, C Unit is made for smaller groups. C Unit has a linear layout and sleeps 76 visitors. C Unit's 10-person cabins make it one of the best in the park for group outings. The beautiful brick fireplaces in the dining hall and craft lodges give this camp a unique character.

Operating Hours

Cabin Camp 3 is open seasonally from May through October by reservation only. Check-in time is 2:00 pm. The Permitee must be present and a park staff member or designee will assist with the check-in process. The group is not allowed to occupy the camp prior to the official check-in. The check-out time is 12:00 pm. The camp must be clean prior to the time of check-out. The Permitee must be present for the check-out process. A park staff member or designee will inspect the facilities for cleanliness.

Weather

Prince William Forest Park experiences all four seasons. Spring and fall are generally comfortable with precipitation possible. Summers can be hot and humid with average temperatures in the high 80s and with sudden thunderstorms possible. July and August are the hottest months. Winters can be cold with average temperatures in the winter of 41 degrees with variable precipitation. The main park roads can close due to snowy conditions, though cross-country skiing and snowshoeing are permitted.

Directions

GPS applications don't always provide accurate directions to the cabin camps so follow these directions instead. From North & South: Use Interstate 95. Take Exit 150. Go west on Joplin Road for 1/2 mile. Turn right on Park Entrance Road. From West: From the community of Independent Hill, use Joplin Road Highway 619 to Park Entrance Road, approximately 9 miles. Turn left on Park Entrance Road. Take Park Entrance Road for 3/4 mile. Turn left onto Scenic Drive. Cabin Camp 3 will be on the right after 1 mile

Group Camp Per Night

This is the price to rent out the group part of Cabin Camp 3, including its cabins, dining hall & kitchen, craft lodges, fire pit, and infirmary. This cost does not include entrance fees, which are $20 per vehicle or covered by a park pass.

Rules & Regulations

Fire/Stove Policy

Firewood purchased or brought from outside of the park must be USDA certified pest-free firewood. Campers may use downed and dead wood of less than 6 inches in diameter and no longer than the length and width of the provided camping grill. Electrical appliances (Stoves, AC Units, heaters, etc.) are prohibited.

Regulations Overview

Reminder that the check-in time is 2:00 pm and the check-out time is 12:00 pm. The Permitee must be present for the check-in and check-out process. All pets are prohibited in the cabin camp area, cabins and camp buildings (except service animals). Smoking is not permitted in any of the cabins or buildings. Cabins should be swept and free of trash upon departure. Quiet hours are between 10:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. Please be considerate of fellow campers. Keep your cabin area and the comfort stations free of trash and personal belongings. Please recycle using the proper container located within the camp. To prevent animal and pest problems, please place trash in provided covered trash receptacles or carry it out with you. Fires are not permitted outside of the provided grills and fireplaces in the lodge building. Camping tents, screen tents or other structures are NOT permitted in the cabin camp

    Parking lots are generally small.  Parking can be limited at times, especially during heavy rain events.  Park management encourages you to carpool.
