Campground Overview

Introduction

Burnwood is located across Route 19 from Canyon Rim Visitor Center and offers group camping. This site is only for groups of 8 or more people and requires a Special Use Permit. For a permit for the group campsites, contact the permits office at 304-465-6517. Permits require a minimum of 10 business days after the application has been received.

Weather

Weather in the Appalachian Mountains can be unpredictable and can change quickly. Always be prepared for the possibility of sudden storms. Weather in the mountains is often cooler and wetter than the surrounding area. On average, the warmest month is July. The maximum average precipitation also occurs in July.

Burnwood Campground is located on U.S. Route 19, just north of Fayetteville, WV. U.S. Route 19 is easily reached from Interstates I-64 and I-79, as well as U.S. Route 60.

Use existing fire rings. Burn only dead wood found on the ground.

Regulations Overview

•Quiet hours are from 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM. •Camp only in designated campsites. •Public intoxication, disorderly conduct, and possession of alcohol by minors is prohibited. •Pets must be kept on a leash. •You are in a national park area, help protect it: littering is prohibited. •Use existing fire rings. •Burn only dead wood found on the ground. •Do not drive nails into trees,or hang lanterns against trees. •Please use the provided toilet facilities. •Broken glass is a hazard to all -- use plastic and aluminum containers when possible.
