The Shore Sky Tower

The tallest building in Melaka, the Shore Sky Tower has a 43rd-floor observation deck that offers sweeping views that span up to 30 miles (50 kilometers) on a clear day. Whether you visit during the day or night, use the provided telescopes to take in the 360-degree vista of Melaka, the Straits of Melaka, and the Malay Peninsula.
The Basics
Part of the residential Shore complex, the Sky Tower stands 534 feet (163 meters) high and offers impressive views. Adventurous travelers will want to venture onto the portions of the viewing platform that have a glass floor, and all visitors can view the glass-bottom fish pond. Many travelers visit the Shore Sky Tower while touring the city of Melaka, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Some tours include a stop at the viewing platform in addition to Melaka’s historic sights, as well as a river cruise.
Things to Know Before You Go
Food and drinks, as well as smoking, are prohibited at the viewing platform.
To stand on the glass platform, visitors must agree to have their photos taken by the designated photographer and may not take their own photos. Photos may be purchased.
The Sky Deli restaurant is located on the 42nd floor, one level beneath the viewing deck.
How to Get There
Melaka is 1.5 to 2 hours south of Kuala Lumpur by car, bus, or train. The Shore complex, where the Shore Sky Tower is located, is in the central city area, beside the river and a short distance from historic Melaka. To reach the Sky Tower, head to Tower 1 of the complex and take the elevator up.
When to Get There
The Shore Sky Tower is open from midmorning until night. Visit the tower when the weather and skies are clear, during the day for the farthest-reaching views, at sunset to watch the sun dip below the horizon, or in the evening to take in the city lights.

If you happen to be in Melaka on the weekend, a fun way to spend an evening is to watch the sun set at the Shore Sky Tower and then get a taxi to the Jonker Walk Night Market. Serving Malaysian street-food specialties, as well as clothing and other items, the market is a must-do experience in Melaka.
