Remarkable Rocks

Flinders Chase National Park, Kangaroo Island, South Australia, 5223

On the south coast of Kangaroo Island, the Remarkable Rocks are one of the island’s most photographed landmarks. A geological wonder dating back some 500 million years, the series of gigantic sea-weathered granite rocks—perched on the clifftops against a backdrop of the Southern Ocean—make for a dramatic sight.

The basics

The Remarkable Rocks are located within the Flinders Chase National Park, and are visited on most Kangaroo Island sightseeing tours and 4WD tours. Follow the boardwalk along the sea cliffs to reach them, and give yourself plenty of time to admire the views, pose for photos beneath the unusual, towering rocks, and learn more about their formation from the information boards. If you’re lucky. you might even spot dolphins or migrating whales as you gaze out to sea.
