James Joyce Statue

N Earl St, Dublin, Ireland

In the bustle of Dublin, you’ll find the James Joyce Statue in all its bronze glory. Created by US sculptor Marjorie Fitzgibbon, the statue stands as a commemoration to the Irish novelist known for works such as Ulysses and Dubliners. If you're a literacy fan, be sure to stop by while sightseeing in the city.

The basics

Most Dublin sightseers visit the James Joyce Statue independently—it’s easy to get to as it’s on a pedestrianized street and doesn’t take long to see. Plan a quick visit while on route to other Dublin attractions or walking through the city. You also might stop by the statue if you’re on a Dublin hop-on hop-off bus tour, walking tour, or literary-themed tour.

Things to know before you go

  • The statue is on the sidewalk and is free to visit.

  • The James Joyce Centre is just about an 8-minute walk away and offers an in-depth look at the writer’s past.

  • If you’re a keen photographer, many travelers recommend visiting in the early morning or late afternoon for the best light.

How to get there

Dublin’s James Joyce Statue can be found at the end of North Earl Street on the left-hand side of the street; most visitors find it easiest to walk from main areas of the city. Alternatively, you can take bus 4 or 7 to Finglas or Kilbarrack, then get off at Parnell Square and walk through the square to North Earl Street.

When to get there

Any time is a good time to go see the James Joyce Statue; it’s within a public space, so you can visit whenever is most convenient for your itinerary. Weekdays are typically a little quieter than weekends in this area of Dublin.

Go on statue scavenger hunt

Dublin has other really noteworthy statues to see while visiting the city. Add the Molly Malone Statue, the Oscar Wilde Monument, the Famine Sculptures, the Phil Lynott Statue, and the Charles S. Parnell Monument to your itinerary and make a day out of seeing them all and snapping photos.
