POINT OF INTEREST

Gizlikent Selalesi

Kayadibi, Seydikemer/Muğla, Turkey, 48850

A waterfall at the top of a lush, shallow stream, Gizlikent Selalesi is one of many natural attractions in the Xanthos Valley of southwestern Turkey. Rocky cliffs bursting with plantlife make up much of the scenery on the route to the waterfall, while the trickle of rushing water and splash of footsteps in the steam provide an equally serene soundtrack.

The basics

The act of getting to Gizlikent Selalesi is as much of the experience as seeing the waterfall itself: A long series of steps leads to a stream, which you walk up to reach the secluded waterfall. Because of several difficult patches, the walk may be too much for younger children.

Many day tours from Kas and Fethiye combine a visit to the waterfall with Saklikent National Park, but some also cover other attractions in the region, such as the Ancient City of Xanthos. Tours generally spend 1–2 hours at Gizlikent Selalesi, allowing time for the walk and to cool off in the waterfall.

Things to know before you go

  • The route to reach the waterfall is not wheelchair accessible or suitable for those with reduced mobility.

  • Bring water shoes for walking up the stream and rocks to the waterfall.

  • A restaurant and souvenir shop can be found at the parking lot where you start the walk to the waterfall.

  • There is a cost to park at the waterfall parking lot.

How to get there

Gizlikent Selalesi is located just north of Saklikent National Park (Saklikent Milli Parki) in the hinterland of Fethiye and Ölüdeniz. Driving from Fethiye or joining a tour are the easier options, but you can also take a dolmus (shared minivan) to the Saklikent National Park bus stop and walk about 30 minutes to reach the entrance.

When to get there

While summer is the best time to benefit from the icy cold water that flows down from Gizlikent Selalesi, it is also when the waterfall will be most busy. If you go between June and September, try to visit early before the crowds arrive. Otherwise visit in the shoulder months of May and October, but come prepared for the season’s cooler climate and cold water.

Natural attractions near Fethiye

Fethiye and the Turquoise Coast aren’t just for beach and boat cruises, there are plenty of places where you can enjoy being outdoors. At Saklikent National Park you can go canyoning, abseiling, and white-water rafting in its gorge. Closer to Fethiye, there’s the Lycian Way hiking trail along the coast, while Babadağ is a mountain used for paragliding.
