Located in a former 16th-century warehouse, Foam (Photography Museum Amsterdam) has been displaying emerging artists alongside internationally recognized names since it opened in the early 2000s. Foam showcases a diverse range of talent across multiple floors. Previous exhibits have featured artists such as Helen Levitt, August Sander, and Masahisa Fukase. Nestled in the heart of the Canal District, Foam is easy to reach on foot or by metro, tram, or bike. Vijzelgracht metro stop is about a 10-minute walk away, while Rembrandtplein and Muntplein tram stops are both within five minutes of the museum. Some city passes include unlimited use of hop-on hop-off buses or public transit.
When to Get There
Check the museum’s calendar before you arrive—the main exhibitions renew yearly, and the smaller displays change every few months. Open daily, Foam generally has extended hours on Thursdays and Fridays. Free tours take place every Thursday night.
