Bowman’s Hill Wildflower Preserve

1635 River Rd., New Hope, Pennsylvania

One of the region’s loveliest nature escapes, Bowman’s Hill Wildflower Preserve in New Hope, Pennsylvania, invites visitors to immerse themselves in its verdant habitats. Sprawling across 134 acres (54 hectares) and comprising everything from woodlands and ponds to wetlands and meadows, this protected nature park is home to 700 of the state’s 2,000 native plant species, plus diverse birds and insects.

Billed as the country’s only living museum specifically dedicated to native plants, Bowman’s Hill Wildflower Preserve has a mission to protect its diverse habitats, which support abundant wildlife as well. This all-season destination acquaints visitors with hundreds of local flora and fauna species throughout the year, while its 4.5 miles (7.2 kilometers) of trails invite long walks in nature.

During a day out, you can explore varied habitat areas including the Aquetong Meadow, Penn’s Woods, and Pidcock Creek, and head to historical landmarks like the park’s stone arch bridge and log cabin. The site is also a popular destination for birders, and is home to some 110 species, which can be observed on guided bird walks and in the Bird Observatory.

  • You can buy tickets online or in person; children, seniors, students, and members of the military receive a discount.

  • Restrooms are located in the park’s visitor center, as are the Twinleaf Book & Gift Shop, the Bird Observatory, and a library.

  • No food is sold on-site, though there is a designated picnic area if you’d like to bring your own snacks.

  • Visitors must stick to the walking trails and avoid picking flowers or otherwise disturbing the habitats.

  • Dogs are not permitted to enter the park, except for service dogs.

  • Nature walks and workshops are offered throughout the year; it’s recommended to research the preserve’s events calendar in advance.

  • Many of the trails are paved and flat enough to accommodate strollers and those with limited mobility.
