POINT OF INTEREST

Acharavi Beach

Corfu, Greece, 49100

On Corfu’s north coast, Acharavi Beach is a textbook Ionian beach: A long stretch of sand and pebbles spooling through the laid-back resort of Acharavi. Cue a low-key seafront of garden-style hotels, tavernas, and beach bars, alongside a gently-shelving beach where you can sunbathe and swim against a backcloth of Albania’s mountainous coast.

The basics

Running for around 1.9 miles (3 kilometers), Acharavi Beach is a stretch of sand and pebbles washed by family-friendly seas. Many visitors spend the whole day here, tempted by the sun loungers, water sports, string of waterside tavernas and bars, plus the shops of nearby Acharavi center.

The vast majority of travelers visit Acharavi Beach independently. However, if you’re staying elsewhere on Corfu and want to see the island’s north coast, some private tours include stops at Acharavi to see the beach and enjoy its seafront bars and restaurants.

Things to know before you go

  • Acharavi Beach is sandier to the north, with white pebbles dominating further south.

  • The sea is typically calm, but can be choppy in the afternoons.

  • Wheelchair-accessible walkways and roads run level to the beach, which is accessible without steps.

  • Amenities include sun loungers and parasols for hire, plus water sports rentals like pedalos and banana boats.

How to get there

Acharavi Beach lies just east of Roda on the north coast, about a 1-hour drive from Corfu Town and Corfu Airport. If driving from the airport, follow National Road 24 through Corfu Town, join the 2224 and 2225 northward, and branch right to Roda before taking the 2217 to Acharavi. Alternatively, cabs run to Acharavi from the airport or Corfu Town, as do regular 43 buses from the city’s KTEL bus station.

When to get there

The best time to enjoy Acharavi Beach is during Corfu’s warm and dry summer months: average August temperatures, for example, hit 77.2°F (25.1°C). That said, the beach can get busy during peak season. For peaceful beach time, consider quieter May-June or September-October. If you’re here in summer, it’s worth heading to the seafront to enjoy the sunset views at around 9pm: they’re truly stunning.

Attractions near Acharavi Beach

If you’re visiting Acharavi Beach, it’s worth strolling into Acharavi town. On the main resort road is the Acharavi Folklore Museum, a charming museum that spotlights Corfiot culture and history using everything from traditional olive presses to vintage photos. Afterward, cross the street to see Acharavi’s very own classical-era ruins: behind a wire fence sit the overgrown remains of what were once Roman baths.
