Zorlu Center
Istanbul, Turkey
Boasting the largest stage in Turkey (officially the Republic of Türkiye), plus a few other cutting–edge venues, Istanbul’s Zorlu Performing Arts Center (Zorlu PSM) offers over 1,200 performances annually. The lineup ranges from top Turkish comedians like Cem Yilmaz to musicals such as The Phantom of the Opera, world–famous DJs, and operas.
The basics
Check the schedule for Zorlu PSM as far in advance as possible, since tickets sell out fast. In addition to the main theater, the complex includes half a dozen venues, each offering a unique experience. The Turkcell Platinum Stage is home to smaller-scale theatrical performances, while %100 Studio hosts electronic dance parties and the intimate Touche by N Kolay music spot is known for jazz. Head to the Zorlu Center roof for art exhibits and enjoy the Sky Lounge.
Things to know before you go
- Popular English musicals and plays may be translated into Turkish. Double-check the performance language before booking.
- The complex offers guests both public and valet parking; be prepared for long lines in the evenings and on weekends.
- The dress code for performances is typically smart casual, but you can wear whatever makes you feel most comfortable.
How to get there
In Istanbul’s Besiktas district, Zorlu Center can be reached by Metrobus and the M2 metro line. The nearest metro station is Gayrettepe, about a 15-minute walk from the theater’s main entrance. Taxis and ride–sharing services are also available throughout the city. As the center is located near the major junction of Barbaros Boulevard and Boulderer Avenue, be sure to plan for evening rush hour (5pm–7pm) if you’re seeing a nighttime performance.
When to get there
Zorlu PSM hosts events year-round, with performances scheduled at various venues throughout the week. For the best experience, consider booking a matinee or weeknight performance, when there’s a better seat selection. The center also hosts annual festivals, including the Istanbul Theater Festival (October–November) and the Electronic Music Festival Sonar Istanbul (April).

If you’re looking for a cultural and historical performance in Istanbul, don’t miss the Whirling Dervish show at the Hodjapasha Culture Center (Hocapasa Kültür Merkezi). The venue’s circular stage lets you witness the spectacular UNESCO–listed Mevlevi Sema ceremony. The Hodjapasha Culture Center also hosts the Rhythm of Dance show, which showcases belly dancing and Turkish folkloric dances.
