Wrigley Mansion
2501 E Telawa Trail, Phoenix, AZ
An Italian-style mansion set in the Arizona desert, the Wrigley Mansion was the vacation home of wealthy chewing-gum entrepreneur William Wrigley, Jr. and his wife Ada in the 1930s. Now a historic landmark and a fine restaurant, the mansion is a popular destination for special occasions, historical tours, and wine tastings.
Originally built by Wrigley as a gift for his wife, the mansion was opened to the public when it was purchased and restored by Geordie Hormel in 1992. The mansion’s residential location means that it is required by the city to operate as a private club, offering affordable “memberships” for visitors who want to stop in for a meal, wine, or afternoon tea. Area residents can choose from a variety of long term membership options.xa0 Guided tours give visitors a chance to get to learn more about the mansion’s architecture and the history of the two instrumental families that created what the mansion is today. Plus, a guide shares entertaining tidbits—such as ghost stories—that you would miss if visiting the mansion on your own. The mansion is also included on some Phoenix city tours.
- Head to the mansion’s website to make reservations for a tour, dining, or an event—advanced reservations are recommended for all activities.
- Photography is welcome on tours.
- The history-heavy mansion tour is not recommended for young children.
- The mansion has a wheelchair-accessible side entrance, but the tour and some of the areas within the mansion are not accessible.
Wrigley Mansion is located next door to the Arizona Biltmore resort and spa. Take Highway 51 North to East Lincoln Drive, turn right onto North 24th Street and then left onto East Arizona Biltmore Circle. The mansion is off of East Telawa Trail. Park at the bottom of the hill and walk up to the mansion or use valet parking to skip the steep walk.
The mansion is open all year round, but check the online schedule for specific events, closures, and hours.
Gordie’s Restaurant offers a fine dining experience in a historic setting with everything from romantic indoor seating to a patio with a view. You can stop in for a meal (reservations recommended) or book a private dinner, holiday brunch, wine pairing, or afternoon tea. The combination of a top-notch chef, over 800 wines, and historic charm have garnered the restaurant numerous awards.
No, there is no official dress code at the Wrigley Mansion, and you can wear comfortable clothing if you wish. If you plan to attend brunch or otherwise dine at on-site restaurants (Geordie’s and Christopher’s), wearing business casual clothing is recommended—though not required.
The Wrigley Mansion tour lasts approximately 1 hour and is hosted twice daily on Wednesdays through Saturdays (though the schedule can change if the venue is hosting any special events). It offers an engaging way to learn more about the National Historic Landmark’s history, owners, and architecture.
The brunch at Wrigley Mansion is one of the venue’s most popular experiences. It can be pre-booked online; currently, it costs $79 per adult and $38 per child (aged 5-12) and is hosted on Sundays from 10am to 2pm. Diners are allocated their table for 2 hours and can also book a private room.
Although it cost around $1.2 million to build in 1931 (and was purchased by its second owner, Geordie Hormel, for $2.6 million in 1992), today, the Wrigley Mansion is worth far more. It recently underwent a $1 million renovation, and estimates suggest it may now be worth up to $30 million.
While casual photography is permitted on tours (as long as it is not disruptive), the Wrigley Mansion otherwise has a strict photography policy. No professional photography (outside of hosted weddings and special events) is permitted, and full photography sessions for special occasions are forbidden. Drones are also banned on-site.
The Wrigley Mansion is one of Phoenix’s best-known historic buildings and a National Historic Landmark. Built for former chewing gum magnate William Wrigley Jr. in 1931, the house is known for its distinctive architecture and design. Today, it’s home to top-rated restaurants run by James Beard Award-winning chefs.
