Tybee Island Light Station and Museum

Climbing to the top of the lighthouse tower is the highlight; there are resting points along the nearly 200-step route. At the top, visitors can step out onto the catwalk for views in all directions (the lighthouse and catwalk are subject to closure due to weather). The landmark is open daily except on Tuesdays, and the last tickets are sold at 4:30pm. Tours are self-guided, with volunteers on hand to answer questions.

• Two hours of parking in the lighthouse lot is included with your admission; tickets can only be purchased on-site.

The Tybee Island Light Station is located at 30 Meddin Drive on the northern flank of Tybee Island. It has ample parking, and most visitors arrive by car, allowing easy exploration of the island. Some visitors also arrive by bicycle and explore Tybee Island on two wheels. Visitors from Savannah sometimes utilize taxis or rideshare to reach the lighthouse.

Visit the Tybee Island lighthouse in spring for pleasant temperatures without the extreme heat and humidity of summer. The weather is especially attractive between March and May. The fall months can also offer pleasant temperatures, but storms and hurricane season can interrupt trips. Winter visits are also possible; bring a jacket, as the location can be breezy.

After visiting the lighthouse, complete your visit to Tybee Island with a stop at Back River Beach. Located at the end of Highway 80, this peaceful beach is known for its wide stretch of sand and gentle waves, which are ideal for swimming, especially for families. Many people also report dolphin sightings when visiting Back River Beach.
