Tupper Lake Wild Center
45 Museum Drive, Tupper Lake, NY
Adirondack Park possesses an untamed natural beauty that sprawls across its expanse, which is distilled into an accessible space at the Wild Center in Tupper Lake. As you explore the site’s 80 acres (32 hectares), you'll encounter a living science museum with indoor and outdoor exhibits, trails, and information about the area’s ecology.
Inside the Wild Center's Big Wolf Great Hall, you can check out the wildlife shows, admire animals like snakes and ravens, and encounter indigenous knowledge at exhibitions about American Indian ecological expertise. Once outside, you can ascend into the forest on the Wild Walk and stroll amid the treetops to see what life is like above the forest floor.Â
Admission to the Wild Center can be booked online ahead of time or purchased onsite for same-day entry. Guided hikes are great for an introduction to the Adirondacks, and canoe adventures—offered for a small fee—are ideal if it's warm and sunny. Travelers can also hike independently along the Living River Trail.
- Get the best value with multiple visits; tickets are valid for two days in a row, and the ticket price applies toward memberships.Â
- Budding ecologists shouldn't miss a behind-the-scenes tour, offered for a small fee.
- Youths, seniors, and members of the military receive discounted admission.
- The main building, exhibition hall, and an accessible loop trail are designed for guests using wheelchairs.
- Guests can borrow wheelchairs free of charge.
