POINT OF INTEREST

Texas Motor Speedway

3545 Lone Star Circle, Forth Worth, Texas

Nicknamed “The Great American Speedway," this racetrack in north Fort Worth is one of the largest motorsport venues in the world, with seating for more than 200,000 spectators. The world-class track is on the NASCAR circuit, but on days without races or events, you can get behind the wheel for racing sessions.

The speedway hosts NASCAR and INDYCAR races, with the NASCAR season typically running for ten straight months throughout the year. You can visit the track during a race, take an official tour, or sign up for race-car driving experiences. Some let you sit alongside professional drivers and follow pacing cars on timed laps, while others are NASCAR-style races without instructors. If racing and spectating aren't part of your plans, head to the lobby-level gift shop for an official track tour.

  • Track tours are held hourly from 10am to 3pm from Monday to Friday and require reservations by phone.

  • Driving experiences range from 3-lap ride-alongs to 50 "race-day" laps.

  • Camping and tailgating facilities are available for racing spectators.

  • You can go-kart at the Lone Star Kartpark near the parking lots at the southern end of the raceway.

  • On race days, you can bring one soft-sided cooler, food, and drinks (no glass) into the grandstands.

As with most cities in Texas, driving is the easiest way to get around Fort Worth. From downtown, it's a straight shot north on Interstate 35W to State Highway 114, Labone Lane, and Lone Star Circle—the drive should take no more than 25 minutes without traffic. Most parking at the Texas Motor Speedway is free.

The Nascar racing season typically runs for ten months every year (February-November), while the Indycar racing season is a bit shorter, from March to September. Special events such as concerts and charity events are held throughout the year and racetrack driving experiences are typically available for one or two weekends each month—visit the speedway's event calendar site for more information.

The driving experiences at the Texas Motor Speedway are as close to speedway racing as most people can get. These sessions can include meetings with a crew chief, official training, and on-the-go lessons via 2-way headsets. Drivers can follow a lead car to pace a simulated race or drive by themselves.
