Texas Civil War Museum

Home to the largest collection of Civil War artifacts west of the Mississippi, the Texas Civil War Museum boasts everything from weapons used on the battlefield to Victorian-era dresses. The museum displays artifacts from both the Union and Confederate sides of the conflict and highlights the role Texas played in the Civil War.

Museum visitors can tour an array of permanent and rotating exhibits that display more than 4,000 different wartime artifacts and learn about the pieces’ original owners and the role they played in the war. The museum is located on the west side of Fort Worth, about 12 miles (25 kilometers) from downtown, and can be reached by car via the I-820 Loop.

The museum is open year-round from Thursday through Saturday. From March through August, the museum is also open on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. The museum sometimes hosts reenactment events and presentations by historians; call in advance or check the online event schedule to learn more before you visit.
