Tamarama Beach

Nestled between two prominent headlands on the Bondi to Coogee Walk, this slight stretch of golden sand has such a glamorous reputation that it is affectionately known as “Glamarama.” While trendsetters flock to Tamarama simply to be seen, the Sydney beach is also a significant draw for surfers and sunbathers.
The basics
Tamarama is surrounded by high cliffs and has a very narrow stretch of shoreline yet is typically less crowded than Bondi Beach. Surfing conditions are often excellent, but swimmers should be aware that Tamarama is considered the most dangerous patrolled beach in New South Wales so always follow the directions of the lifeguards who patrol the beach. Guided tours, particularly those focused on Sydney’s beaches, often include a stop at Tamarama. On a helicopter tour, you can also get a bird’s eye glimpse of its golden sands.

Alcohol and smoking are prohibited on Tamarama Beach.

How to get there
The best way to reach Tamarama Beach is following the Bondi to Coogee Walk, a coastal trail connecting Sydney’s best beaches. If you come directly from the Sydney CBD, it is better to take a 30-minute bus ride (route 333) rather than drive as parking can be tricky.
When to get there
Although Tamarama is rarely crowded, getting there early is the best way to grab your preferred spot on the sand. If you plan to go swimming, it is a good idea to check rip tide conditions beforehand. The beach is patrolled from early morning until the evening every day.
Bronte Beach
If you continue along the Bondi to Coogee Walk from Tamarama Beach, you’ll soon arrive at Bronte Beach, a gorgeous stretch of sand framed by sandstone cliffs that is a locals’ favorite for swimming and sunbaking and home to the Bronte Baths, an ocean pool carved into the cliffs. Bronte is around a 10-minute walk from Tamarama.
