Royal Regalia Museum
Jln Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddien, Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei, BS8611
Despite its lavish mosques and jungle-rich surrounds, Brunei is one of the least-visited countries in the world. The Royal Regalia Museum in the capital of Bandar Seri Begawan is dedicated to Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah, who has reigned over Brunei for more than five decades, and serves as a visual representation of the immense wealth of the sultanate.
The Basics
A walk through the Royal Regalia Museum takes visitors past crown jewels, ceremonial gowns, and endless gifts of silver, jade, ivory, and gemstones from heads of state and high-ranking officials. Highlights include the life-size gold chariot used to carry the sultan through the city during his 1992 silver jubilee and a tiny replica of the sultan’s reception hall. Nearly all Bandar Seri Begawan tours combine a visit to the museum with stops at the Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddin Mosque and the floating villages of Kampong Ayer.
