Quart Towers (Torres de Quart)

Plaça de Santa Úrsula 1, Valencia, Spain, 46003

One of the two remaining gates of the old Valencia city wall, the Quart Towers (Torres de Quart) represent a tangible piece of Valancia’s rich history. Visitors can admire the imposing Gothic-style 15th-century Quart Towers from ground level or climb to the top for sweeping city views.

The basics

A steep and narrow staircase leads visitors to the top of the Quart Towers, from where you can see the city below. Before climbing, look at the façade to see cannonball marks left in 1808 during the War of Independence against the French. See the Quart Towers on a sightseeing tour of Valencia by foot, bike, or tuk-tuk. For a more in-depth experience, book a self-guided audio tour that includes insights into the Quart Towers' history.

Things to know before you go

  • There is a fee to enter Quart Towers and climb to the top. It is discounted for students, children, the elderly, and groups.

  • Check the weather before setting out, as the tower closes for heavy rain or wind.

  • Wear good shoes for the climb to the top, and carry water.

How to get there

Torres de Quart is located at the western end of Carrer de Quart. From the Estación del Norte train station (North Station), it's a 5-minute bus trip on bus No. 5 or a 15-minute walk down Guillem de Castro Street. From the Estacion de Autobuses de Valencia (Valencia Bus Station) it’s a 15-minute walk.

When to get there

The towers are open to visitors seven days a week from morning until evening (on Sundays, it closes in the early afternoon). On Sundays, admission is free, but it is typically busier than usual. If you want to enjoy the monument without the crowds, go on a weekday.

Serranos Towers

On the other side of the Old Town, around a 10-minute walk away, the crenelated Serranos Towers (Torres de Serranos) is the second remaining gate. Dating from the late 14th century, the towers also served as a prison as well as one of the key entrance gates to the city. Visitors can admire the towers’ striking Gothic architecture and climb to the top for views over the city.
