Located on a 150-year-old Costa Rican horse and cattle ranch, Pura Aventura offers multiple ways to enjoy the Guanacaste area. The ranch provides a natural habitat for birds, monkeys, and pumas. It’s also a picturesque backdrop for the park’s canopy tours, horseback riding, mountain biking, and ATV adventures.
The Basics
Visitors to Pura Aventura have their pick of activities. A canopy tour takes you through the forest on 11 ziplines, a swinging bridge, and a rappel. Horseback riders choose a leisurely ride through the forest or a gallop through the pasture. Mountain bike tours (for beginners or advanced riders) whisk you along dirt trails deep into the rainforest. On the ATV tour, ride up the mountains to enjoy panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean.
Things to Know Before You Go
Save money by booking more than one tour in advance.
Canopy and horseback riding tours are suitable for children age 5 and older.
Must be at least 16 years old for the ATV tour.
Long pants and closed-toe shoes are strongly recommended for all tours.
Don’t forget insect repellent, sunscreen, and a rain jacket.
How to Get There
Pura Aventura is located just outside Playa Tamarindo on Costa Rica’s Pacific coast. Shuttles are available to Pura Aventura from many Tamarindo hotels. If driving yourself, take route 152 out of Tamarindo to route 160 south. Pura Aventura is 15 miles (24 kilometers) southeast of Tamarindo.
When to Get There
The dry season (December to March) is considered the best time to visit Costa Rica; however, it is also Costa Rica’s busiest season, with higher prices and peak crowds. For budget travelers and those wishing to avoid the crowds, visiting between May and November is recommended.

The Tamarindo coast is known for good surfing and gorgeous beaches. Take a snorkeling or scuba diving tour and explore some of its coves or spy massive sea turtles on a turtle nesting tour. You can also enjoy sailing, deep-sea fishing, kayaking, golfing, or a guided hike up into the mountains.
