Puccini Bomboni
17 Staalstraat, Amsterdam, Netherlands
Puccini Bomboni is one of Amsterdam’s finest chocolatiers, dedicated to high-end, sustainable, delectable chocolates—you probably haven’t tasted chocolate like this. The Puccini bonbon is the specialty, where chocolate sings in a variety of flavors. Two stores in the city—and one in Utrecht—are open daily for anyone bold enough to risk the many temptations of offer.
The basics
Puccini Bomboni started in 1987 as a dessert shop, but today it’s synonymous with fine Dutch chocolate. Visit one of its storefronts and a chocolatier will help you decide between a dazzling variety of treats, each made in-house and sourced from sustainable farmers. On Staalstraat—one of two Amsterdam locations—you can even see the kitchen crew at work, handcrafting these delicate creations. To narrow down the task of selection, opt for the signature Puccini Bomboni bonbon—a tiny artwork made from real cream.
Things to know before you go
Puccini Bomboni’s chocolates are not known for being cheap—but they are known for being worth it.
Various sugar-free and gluten-free products are available.
Arrive at the Staalstraat location around opening time or closing time to catch the kitchen crew at work.
How to get there
Puccini Bomboni has two Amsterdam locations: Staalstraat 17 and Singel 184. For the former, take the metro or tram to Waterlooplein and walk from there; for the latter, take the metro or tram to Dam Square. Alternatively, the Singel location is a 15-minute walk south through the city center from Central Station.
When to get there
Both of Puccini Bomboni’s Amsterdam locations are open every day of the week, typically from mid-morning to early evening. There’s no bad time to visit, and while the stores can be busy, that’s part of the fun. Simply get there when you’re in the area or doing some shopping, souvenir or otherwise—the chocolates make great gifts to take back home.
Taste the rainbow…
