Psarou Beach

Psarrou, Greece, 84600

Famed for attracting the rich and famous, Psarou Beach is one of the trendiest (and prettiest) on the island of Mykonos. Superyachts moor in the emerald waters just offshore, while luxury beach clubs line the water’s edge. Set in a deep cove, this dazzling beach is sheltered from the winds, so the sea remains calm and crystal clear even on blustery days.

The basics

Psarou Beach sits just 3 miles (5 kilometers) from Mykonos town, making it an easy seaside break after visiting the whitewashed old town of Chora, the historic windmills, and Little Venice. You can also stop here during a tour of the island’s highlights; options include private tours, small-group driving tours, shore excursions, and boat tours along the southern coastline by sailboat, motorboat, or catamaran.

Things to know before you go

  • Most of the beach is occupied by private beach clubs renting umbrellas and beach chairs for the day, but you can also stake out a spot on the small public beach.

  • The vibe here is very adult, though the calm, shallow water and pristine sand are ideal for families with young children.

  • Psarou is a popular beach for water sports, including scuba diving, snorkeling, and Jet Ski excursions.

  • Beach club restaurants on Psarou serve sit-down meals, while bars offer drinks and snacks.

  • There are walkways to reach some of the beach club umbrellas but no wheelchair access to enter the water.

How to get there

You can reach Psarou Beach by bus from Mykonos town: Take the bus from the Fabrika station to Platis Gialos, then walk about 10 minutes to the beach. Alternatively book an island tour with a private driver that includes time to take a dip at Psarou, or a boat tour to drop anchor and swim in the bay.

When to get there

This popular beach gets crowded during the midday in high season, so plan to visit in the early morning hours or late afternoon to avoid the yacht rush. Psarou Beach clubs are an ideal spot for happy hour, with cocktails and music as the sun sets.

What to expect at a Mykonos beach club

Though most beaches lining Mykonos have free stretches of public beach, the island is famous for its beach clubs. Even the most basic beach club offers sun umbrellas, beach chairs, and sunbeds for rent, plus perks like restrooms and a snack bar. Mykonos beach clubs dial it up a notch with luxe services like whole pergolas for rent, gourmet seafood restaurants for sit-down meals, cocktail bars, DJ sets, and dance parties in the evening.
