Platinum Fashion Mall
222 Phetchaburi Rd., Bangkok, Thailand, 10400
The 2,000-store-strong Platinum Fashion Mall is an enormous wholesale shopping mall in central Bangkok. Savvy shoppers come here for retail shopping, too, as you don’t have to buy in bulk quantities. Wearable fashion is well-represented here, but you can also find souvenirs, technology, and more. With sharp bargaining skills, you’ll be able to find a few deals as well.
The basics
There’s no shortage of places to shop in the Thai capital, but if you want to make your baht go further, the Platinum Fashion Mall is a handy place to go. With seven floors of retail and food outlets, you could easily spend a whole day here.
Travelers typically visit independently so they can shop at their leisure, but the mall can also be added to a private guided tour in Bangkok—which can be helpful, as many vendors don’t speak English. It’s in central Bangkok, near other shopping centers such as Siam Square and the MBK Center, and popular tourist attractions like the Jim Thompson House Museum.
Things to know before you go
While some stands accept credit cards, you should expect to pay cash throughout the mall. ATMs can be found on every floor.
Head to the 6th-floor food court for Thai and international fare.
Prices are generally fixed, but respectful bargaining is welcome, especially if you’re buying a few items from one retailer.
How to get there
The mall is in the Ratchathewi neighborhood of central Bangkok. The closest BTS stations are Ratchathewi and Chit Lom on the Sukhumvit Line, which are each about a 10–15 walk from the mall, in different directions. If you want to get closer, buses stop right outside, or you can catch a taxi or rideshare service.
When to get there
The mall is open daily from mid-morning to early evening. It can get especially crowded on the weekends, so visit on a weekday, especially before midday, if you can. Monday, Wednesday, and Friday are good days to visit, since many retailers receive deliveries then, meaning you’ll have fresh choices. You’ll find entertainment outside in the evenings.
Shop at the weekend Chatuchak Market
For a completely different shopping experience, head north to the Chatuchak Market on the weekend. The enormous market contains over 15,000 stalls selling everything from vintage denim to tropical fruit to locally produced cosmetics. If you can’t find it here, it’s not for sale anywhere in Thailand. Some shops are air-conditioned, but much of the market is open-air, so it can get a bit sweaty.
