Palazzo Lombardia
Piazza Città di Lombardia 1, Milan, Lombardy, 20124
This award-winning skyscraper is one of the most important examples of contemporary architecture in Italy, and a highlight of the Porta Nuova neighborhood in Milan. Completed in 2010, the building was the tallest in Italy at the time and the winner of the 2012 International Architecture Award for the best new global design.
The basics
Soaring 529 feet (161 meters) above Milan’s modern Porta Nuova business district, Palazzo Lombardia is the headquarters of the regional government of Lombardy, but architecture enthusiasts can visit the ground floor, which is home to shops, restaurants, bars, and an auditorium for performances. Join a walking tour of Porta Nuova to visit the neighborhood’s 19th-century Porta Nuova city gate and important modern skyscrapers like Palazzo Lombardia, in addition to the Unicredit Tower, Diamante Tower, and the Bosco Verticale.
Segway by night tours are a unique way to explore the neighborhood, or you can combine architecture with cuisine by opting for a Porta Nuova food tasting tour that stops to sample Italian specialties at Eataly.
