Palace on the Isle

Agrykola 1, Warsaw, Poland, 00-460

Located within Warsaw's stunning Lazienki Park, the Palace on the Isle is a former royal residence that dates back to the 18th century. It invites visitors to step into Poland's courtly history with guided tours of its restored rooms, such as the ballroom and the portrait gallery. Highlights include grand chandeliers, exquisite artworks, and historic artifacts.

The basics

The Palace on the Isle is featured on several tours. For those looking to explore multiple sights in a day, a retro bus tour offers a time-saving way to visit key landmarks such as Lazienki Park, the Old Town, the Cathedral of St. John, and the Royal Castle. In Lazienki Park, spend time strolling the beautiful grounds; start at the Palace on the Isle, then visit the classical amphitheater and the Old Orangery.

Things to know before you go

  • The Palace on the Isle is wheelchair accessible, with an accessible bathroom on the ground floor of the Eastern Pavilion.

  • There are two open-air cafés in Lazienki Park—one close to the amphitheatre, and one close to the New Guardhouse.

  • On Fridays, admission to the historic sites of Lazienki Park is typically free.

How to get there

To reach the Palace on the Isle in Warsaw, you can take bus #108 or #162 to the Agrykola 01 or Agrykola 02 bus stop, each only a 5-minute walk away. Another option is taking a tram—such as #11 to the Sielecka 02 stop—then walking about 15 minutes. If you’re driving, the Parking Lazienki Krolewskie parking lot is on the outskirts of Lazienki Park.

When to get there

Palace on the Isle is typically open Tuesday–Sunday from mid-morning to late afternoon, with extended hours Thursday–Saturday. For a quieter experience, it’s best to visit on a weekday morning, preferably right after opening, to avoid the larger afternoon crowds.

Other sights in Lazienki Park

In addition to the Palace on the Isle, Lazienki Park is home to several other must-sees. Be sure to visit the Old Orangery, which houses the Royal Sculpture Gallery, and explore Myślewicki Palace, a charming example of rococo-neoclassical architecture that’s smaller than the Palace on the Isle, but equally beautiful. Don’t miss the classical amphitheater, set by the water, and look out for peacocks roaming freely in this area.
