Oman Oil and Gas Exhibition Centre
Sayh Al-Malih Street, Mina Al Fahl, Muscat, Oman
Operated by the Petroleum Development Oman, the country's leading gas and oil company, the Exhibition Center contains a museum and planetarium. Since its inception in 1979, the facility has focused on scientific advancements in astronomy and energy. After undergoing a complete transformation in 1995, it's now an educational attraction.
The basics
The Exhibition Center focuses on the history and science behind Oman's oil and natural gas industry. Engage with hands-on displays and activities that reveal the geological conditions that produced these resources. Delve into the lifecycle of oil and natural gas, from formation underground, to the extraction and refining process, and to modern-day usage. Interactive exhibits and mini-models offer insights into alternative energy sources. It's an illuminating journey through the heart of the energy industry.

When to get there
While the center is open year-round, it's a popular attraction in the high season of the winter months (November–March) when temperatures are more mild and comfortable for exploring the city. Otherwise, it also offers an indoor escape for those visiting Oman in the warmer months, when temperature can soar over 100°F (38°C).
Visit the Planetarium
Next door to the center, Petroleum Development Oman built Oman's first ever planetarium as an annex to the Oil and Gas Exhibition Center. Opened since 2000 and upgraded in 2012, it's a popular place to visit before or after the oil and gas museum. It features family-friendly displays about space and astronomy in sleek and contemporary rooms. Online booking is required before visiting.
