Mother Farm

940-3 Tagura, Futtdu, Chiba, 299-1713

Just east of Tokyo you’ll find Mother Farm, an animal- and flower-focused amusement park. Get to know the animals in the petting zoo, or spend the day sheepshearing and horseback riding while enjoying the slower pace and fresh air of the countryside.

The Basics

Popular with urban Tokyo residents and travelers alike, Mother Farm is located on Chiba’s Boso Peninsula, which is famous for its flowers. Admire the abundant rapeseed, cosmos, and salvia, and check out all the animals: sheep, horses, rabbits, alpacas, and even capybaras. It’s not all about the animals and flowers, though—you can also take a ride on the Ferris wheel or zoom around in a go-kart.

To save time at the entrance, book your ticket online in advance. Or, buy a combo ticket that also includes admission to Kamogawa Sea World.

Things to Know Before You Go

  • Mother Farm is a fun destination for the whole family.

  • Some activities at Mother Farm require an extra fee.

  • It takes up to 30 minutes to walk from one end of Mother Farm to the other. Alternatively, tractors and buses provide transport to visitors who need it.

  • Strollers and wheelchairs are available for rent.

  • The farm has on-site restaurants and gift shops.

How to Get There

If you’re using public transit, plan your trip to Mother Farm carefully to avoid having to wait several hours for a connecting bus. From Tokyo, take a JR train to Sanukimachi or Kimitsu station, then catch a bus to Mother Farm. Buses run more frequently on the weekend (roughly every hour). Check the Mother Farm website for detailed instructions in English on how to get there.

When to Get There

Mother Farm is open year-round, with reduced hours in December and January. It’s especially attractive in spring, when the flowers begin blooming. For fewer crowds, avoid going on weekends and public holidays.

Visit the Chiba Zoological Park

For another animal-themed attraction in Chiba, head over to the zoological park. Home to animals such as red pandas (aka fire foxes), giraffes, and sloths, the park is spread out over a large area, so you can spend an entire day exploring the trails.
