The Basics

Mori Art Museum doesn’t have a permanent gallery. Instead, enjoy rotating temporary exhibitions from the biggest names in contemporary art from Japan and abroad—primarily from around Asia—with solo and themed group shows. Notable artists have included Takashi Murakami, Ai Weiwei, and Yayoi Kusama. Every three years the museum hosts Roppongi Crossing, a group exhibition that provides a snapshot of the Japanese contemporary art scene. To avoid lines and save time, book your ticket in advance.

How to Get There

Roppongi Hills is a 3-minute walk from Roppongi Station, which is served by Tokyo Metro Hibiya Line. There are multiple, spread-out exits, so be sure to take Exit 1C and access Roppongi Hills through the underground concourse. If you travel to Roppongi Station on the Toei Subway Oedo Line, take Exit 3 (a 6-minute walk).

When to Get There

The museum is open seven days a week from morning until late evening (with last admission a half-hour before close) with the exception of Tuesday when it closes in later afternoon. The Museum is closed when no exhibitions are on view, so check ahead of your visit.

Art Triangle Roppongi

Roppongi was once better-known as a red light district, but since the 2003 opening of Mori Art Museum, a healthy art scene has emerged. There are now a number of museums and galleries in the area, three of which—Suntory Museum of Art, The National Art Center Tokyo, and Mori Art Museum—form Art Triangle Roppongi and are within a short walk of one another.
