Melaka Botanical Garden
Melaka, Malaysia, 75450
At the 228-acre (92-hectare) Melaka Botanical Garden, just outside Melaka, visitors can spend time hiking and cycling, or simply picnicking and relaxing. Highlights of this popular park include a suspension bridge, observation towers for looking out across the forest, and a playground for kids, as well as a jogging trail and cycle paths.
The Basics
Most travelers follow the lead of locals and visit the Melaka Botanical Garden independently to cycle or jog. In addition to a range of facilities, the forest park contains three garden zones: the Prehistoric Park, Garden Stories, and the Deer Park, with trees and plants labeled. Many varieties of birds and insects call the park home, and monkeys are visible residents.
Things to Know Before You Go
Bicycles can be rented at the Melaka Botanical Garden.
If taking a picnic, beware of the monkeys and do not feed them.
You can rent a cabin or bring your own tent to camp out in the park.
How to Get There
The Melaka Botanical Garden is located in the town of Ayer Keroh, just north of Melaka city and near the well-known Mini Malaysia and ASEAN Cultural Park. To get there by public transit from Melaka, take the bus to the ASEAN Cultural Park. Alternatively, drive along the M31 highway from Melaka to Ayer Keroh.
When to Get There
The botanical garden is especially popular with locals on the weekends, who come to exercise and spend time with their families. Though it’s possible to stay overnight in the park, most travelers choose to visit during the day to enjoy the garden’s recreational activities.
Visit the Mini Malaysia and ASEAN Cultural Park
In addition to the Melaka Botanical Garden, one of Ayer Keroh’s best-known attractions is the Mini Malaysia and ASEAN Cultural Park, where visitors can see replicas of homes from all 13 of Malaysia’s states. While the homes look alike from the outside, inside they are outfitted differently, with models wearing local dress and furnishings representing the handicrafts of each region. The Mini Malaysia and ASEAN Cultural Park and the Melaka Botanical Garden are located close together, so many travelers visit the two attractions on the same day.
