Marigot Bay

The Basics

Head to Marigot Bay to take in the stunning view while sunbathing at the beach outside the upscale Marigot Bay Resort, and spy on the luxury yachts that float in and out of the bay’s pocket-sized marina. When you’ve had your fill of sunbathing, browse the offerings at the handful of shops and restaurants located on the bay, or rent kayaks and paddle through the nearby mangroves.

You can visit the bay for a day or stop by on a tour that might also include a sail or visits to other local attractions. You can also opt to see the bay from above by heading to the top of the hill in the marina village.

Things to Know Before You Go

• Every beach on St. Lucia is open to the public, including those (like Marigot Bay) that look like they’re part of resorts.

• The Marigot Bay Resort runs a restaurant and bar at the beach. Patrons of the restaurant can use the chairs and umbrellas provided by the resort.

• Remember to bring sun protection and bottled water.

• There is parking on site.

How to Get There

Marigot Bay is on St. Lucia’s west coast, close to the village of Anse La Raye. To reach the bay from Castries, take la Toc Road (which becomes Fond Manger in the town of Soucis), then head west on Waterfront Road; the drive takes about 25 minutes. There are water taxis in the bay that will take you to the beach.

When to Get There

High season in St. Lucia coincides with the dry season, which runs from mid-December to March. The quietest months are June–November, when the island sees a fair amount of rain.

Fryday Night Fish Fiesta

After sending some time enjoying Marigot Bay, head to nearby Anse La Raye, a charming fishing village famous for its wonderful French and English colonial architecture. If you can, time your visit to the town’s Friday fish fry. This weekly block party offers a chance to mingle with locals, dance to Caribbean rhythms, and feast on a variety of delicious, fresh fish dishes.
