Manchester Historic Association Millyard Museum
200 Bedford St., Manchester, NH
Located in a renovated mill building of the Amoskeag Manufacturing Company—once one of the largest textile mills in the world—the Manchester Historic Association Millyard Museum showcases nearly 11,000 years of history of the region. In addition to its permanent exhibit, the museum offers temporary exhibitions, school and family programs, lectures, and other special events.
You can explore the museum on a self-guided mobile tour app, which features 18 stops in the museum’s permanent exhibit, “Woven in Time,” with original audio, images, and an introduction that goes beyond the exhibit information. Guided tours are also available if booked in advance. Look for special exhibitions and other programs in the Henry M. Fuller State Theatre Gallery and Discovery Gallery. Combine an independent visit to the museum with the MHA Research Center nearby or the See Science Center in the same building.
There’s an entrance fee for the museum, with free entry for kids 12 and under. Entrance to the museum also grants free entry to the MHA Research Center.
Guided tours are available for an additional fee and must be reserved in advance.
Games related to the museum are available for kids.
There’s a gift shop on-site.
The museum is wheelchair accessible, with one wheelchair available for visitors.
The Millyard Museum is in Mill #3 of the Amoskeag Millyard in downtown Manchester, with access from the Commercial Street entrance. Take 1-93 to I-293 to Exit 5 (Granite Street Bridge Exit). Free parking can be found at the front and rear of the building, with metered parking available nearby. The museum is within walking distance of downtown. The Green DASH shuttle bus from Veteran’s Memorial Park also stops at UNH Manchester nearby.
The museum is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10am to 4pm year-round, with closures for some national holidays. Plan to spend at least an hour at the museum. Check the museum’s website for special events, which are held from time to time. Allot more time if you plan to explore the MHA Research Center or the See Science Center as well.
Located in the same building as the Millyard Museum, the See Science Center offers interactive science demonstrations and hands-on exhibits for all ages, especially kids. Don’t miss the 1:55 scale model of the Amoskeag Millyard as it would have appeared around 1900, made from more than 3 million LEGO® bricks and more than 8,000 mini figures. On Saturdays, dual passes are available for both the Millyard Museum and See Science Center.
