Malaga Park (Parque de Malaga)
Paseo del Parque 1, Malaga, Andalucia, 29015
Centered around three main pathways bordering the Paseo del Parque, Málaga Park stretches along the city’s seafront, from Plaza del General Torrijos to the Plaza de la Marina. The park is a popular stop on Málaga cycling tours, and horse-and-carriage rides also pass by gardens filled with roses, orange and cypress trees, and exotic plants.
The basics
In the heart of Málaga, you’ll find this urban oasis. Here, you can stroll along the park’s walking lanes, admiring the statues of famous Málaga figures, such as poet Salvador Rueda and artist Bernado Ferrándiz, plus catch the cute bronze donkey by Jaime Fernández Pimentel near the children’s play area. The open-air Eduardo Ocón Auditorium hosts concerts, movie nights, and music festivals in summer. Most guided city tours stop at the park.
Things to know before you go
The park is also called Alameda Park or El Parque (the Park).
It’s considered one of Europe’s most important public botanical gardens, with a collection of tropical and subtropical plants.
Both locals and visitors head to the park as an escape from the hustle and bustle of the city.
At the end of the park, look for the Fountain of the Three Graces (Fuente de las Tres Gracias).
How to get there
Málaga Park is next to the La Malagueta neighborhood and is within easy walking distance from most of the city’s main attractions. It’s best accessed on foot as parking can be tricky; alternatively, several bus lines stop along Paseo de Parque. It’s also along the city’s hop-on, hop-off bus routes.
When to get there
Every Sunday, the Málaga Municipal Band performs a concert at noon in the Eduardo Ocon Bandstand in the park. Over Christmas, the Three Kings Parade travels through the park along Paseo del Parque. The best time to visit Málaga is the summer (between June and September) when it's warm and dry.
Botanical-Historical Garden of Malaga (JardÃn Botánico Histórico La Concepción)
Located at the northern entrance to Málaga, the city’s historical garden boasts diverse subtropical plant species. That’s because the climate here is ideal for warm-zone plants that would struggle in other parts of Europe. You can check the website for the blooming time of specific plants; the best times to visit are spring and summer. The garden is 3 miles (5 kilometers) north of the city center, so you’ll need to take a bus or car to get there.
