Madonna Estate Winery

5400 Old Sonoma Road, Napa, CA

Located in the world-renowned Carneros wine region, which straddles the Napa Valley, the Madonna Estate is a unique winery utilizing dry-farming production and organic grapes. The vineyard is family-owned and operated by the Bartoluccis, who use a combination of traditional and modern winemaking techniques to produce handcrafted wines.

The idea behind Madonna Estate Winery is minimal intervention and as much natural growth as possible. Mild fog and cool temperatures create a unique microclimate in this area fed by coastal winds. Madonna Vineyard produces ten varietals including chardonnay, pinot noir, pinot grigio, and cabernet sauvignon. The tasting room is decorated in Italian Pompeii style to reflect the family’s heritage, and the Reserve room offers a tasting menu featuring five of their highest quality vintages.

*Tastings are complimentary or with a fee, depending on the quality of wines. *All wine-tasting participants must be 21 years of age or older. *There are two picnic areas and the estate is dog-friendly. *Guided tours from San Francisco typically include hotel pickup and may combine stops at nearby wineries like Hagafen Cellars and Domaine Chandon.

Madonna Estate is located at 5400 Old Sonoma Road, about 40 miles (64 km) northeast of San Francisco in the Carneros region of Napa. Follow US-101 over the Golden Gate Bridge and take CA-37 E to CA-121 N. Alternate routes depart from the East Bay.

The main tasting room is open daily from 10am–5pm; no appointment is necessary. The Reserve room is open for individuals and groups daily from 10am–4:30pm; reservations are required. Annual commemorative labels like Hallovine and Holidaze celebrate the autumn and winter holidays.

Madonna Vineyards was one of the few original vineyards that survived the Prohibition era. Although its current iteration was established on-site in the 1970s, the initial vineyard and winery was founded in Oakville in the 1920s. As the second oldest winemaking family in the Napa Valley, they continue to ensure the historical winemaking traditions of the past live on.
