LX Factory
Rua Rodrigues de Faria 103, Lisbon, Portugal, 1300-501
Shopping, dining, and coworking are just a few of the things you can do at LX Factory, a retail destination beneath Lisbon’s landmark 25th of April Bridge (Ponte 25 de Abril). The cluster of 19th-century factory buildings, now decorated with murals and art installations, houses more than 50 stores and eateries selling everything from books and brigadeiros (a type of dessert) to vintage clothes and quirky souvenirs. On Sundays, yet more vendors gather at LX Factory for a weekly flea market.
The basics
Tours of Lisbon's cultural and architectural wonders frequently visit LX Factory. They typically highlight key landmarks such as Belem Tower (Torre de Belem), Jeronimos Monastery, and history-rich districts such as Alfama and Chiado. Some tours also showcase LX Factory alongside lesser-known attractions such as Basilica de Estrela and Casa Fernando Pessoa. You can also get to LX Factory on a hop-on hop-off bus and tram tour, a tuk-tuk tour, or a private walking tour.
Things to know before you go
Weekends tend to be busy, so arriving early is recommended to avoid crowds.
Consider combining your visit with a trip to Belem, as LX Factory is conveniently located halfway between the two destinations.
Most boutiques and market stalls accept both cash and credit cards.
It's advisable to check the event schedule before your visit to catch any special activities or performances.
How to get there
LX Factory is in the Alcantara district of Lisbon. Buses 714 and 727 stop at Alcantara, a short walk from LX Factory. Tram 15 from Praça da Figueira is another easy option as it stops at Largo do Calvario, just a few minutes walk away. Ridesharing apps such as Uber and Bolt also offer a convenient way to get there.
When to get there
For a special experience at the LX Factory, Sundays are recommended as the area hosts a lively open-air flea market with second-hand objects, handicrafts, music, and local delicacies. While the factory operates daily from morning till late, many stores close on Sundays, so if you wish to visit the stores, it may be best to return during the week.
The best places to eat in the LX Factory
In the LX Factory, you can find varied dining options catering to diverse tastes. Mex Factory serves upscale Mexican street food with live music, while Cantina offers traditional Portuguese dishes. For healthy options, head to The Therapist, and for Portuguese fried chicken, try Cucurico. For fine dining, Taberna 1300 boasts creative cuisine by acclaimed chef Nuno Barros.
