Lukang Folk Arts Museum
No. 88 Guanqian St., Lukang Township, Changhua County, 505
A historical and architectural landmark, the Lukang Folk Arts Museum might be best-known for its looks. Primarily housed in a neo-baroque 1919 residence built by a Japanese architect, the museum opened in 1973. With sumptuous decorations and a wealth of Qing dynasty artifacts, it offers a view of turn-of-the-century Taiwanese life.
The basics
The Lukang Folk Arts Museum actually comprises two buildings: one a neo-baroque star and the other a 200-year-old Fujianese building. You could spend several hours wandering between the two and get acquainted with the 6,000-strong collection of artifacts housed within. Collection highlights range from ceramics, clothing, calligraphy and musical instruments, as well as a range of rooms outfitted in period decorations. This cultural institution is an excellent choice for history buffs and art lovers on a Lukang day trip.

Things to do in Lukang
Near to major hubs like Taichung but removed enough to offer a more peaceful feel, Lukang is a worthy day-trip destination in central Taiwan. The historic city is home to hundreds of temples, including the grand Lukang Tianhou Temple. And Lukang Old Street offers pretty red-brick buildings, lots of tempting snack stalls, shops to browse, and traditional architecture.
