The Basics

While in Cannes, visit the charming old town and some of its finest attractions: the extraordinary Castre Museum (the Musée de la Castre), housed inside a medieval castle, and Église Notre-Dame d’Espérance, a 15th-century church built over 100 years ago. How to Get There

Le Suquet is a 15-minute walk from the port. From La Croisette, head west, past the old port to the winding cobblestone roads to reach the top of the quarter.

When to Get There

Cannes is a pleasant place to visit any time of the year. In July, Le Suquet hosts special outdoor concerts (Nuits Musicales du Suquet). The perfect time is early fall, as the weather is still warm and the crowds are few. High season is during the summer and in May when both the Cannes Film Festival and the Monaco Formula 1 Grand Prix take over the Riviera.

Musée de la Castre

This unexpectedly wonderful museum focuses on ancient non-European art. At the center of the collections are artworks and artifacts 19th-century Dutch aristocrat Baron Tinco Martinus Lycklama amassed during his global journeys. Look for rare Persian objects and paintings from the 1st era of the Qajars, as well as art from Oceania, Tibet, and a rich well of Mediterranean antiquities, pre-Columbian ceramics, musical instruments from all over the world, and 19th century landscape paintings.
