The arts and creativity are celebrated at La Casa Encendida, a multiuse building established by Fundacion Montemadrid. Here, you can check out art exhibits and plays, watch a film screening, take advantage of onsite libraries and media labs, or just hang out at one of two cafes.
The basics
Most of the activities and exhibits at La Casa Encendida focus on one or more of four key action points: culture, solidarity, education, and the environment. They offer workshops for adults and children on subjects ranging from human rights to gardening, with many streamed online. Not many city tours take you here, but if you’re looking for an off-the-beaten-tourist-path spot to visit, you can add a stop to many custom private tours of Madrid.

La Casa Encendida is wheelchair friendly.
Pets are welcome, except in designated animal-free zones.
Guided tours of select exhibits are available free of charge, though some exhibits and activities have an entry fee.
On-site features include a fair-trade shop and two cafés, including one on a pretty rooftop terrace filled with plants.
How to get there
La Casa Encendida is easy to get to from elsewhere in Madrid on public transportation. Bus numbers 27, 34, 36, 41, 119, C1, and C2 stop nearby, and the Embajadores Station, served by commuter trains and Line 3 of the Madrid Metro, is only a 2-minute walk away.
When to get there
The Casa is open from Tuesday through Saturday, from morning until well into the evening, and on Sunday from morning until late afternoon. Different features within the center, including the cafes, a photography lab, and libraries, have different hours, so it's best to check the website for details of any spots you want to visit.
Círculo de Bellas Artes (CBA)
Another cultural center worth checking out is the Círculo de Bellas Artes (CBA), housed in a 1919 building in central Madrid. This non-profit center has quite a bit in common with La Casa Encendida and features a cinema, an exhibit hall, and a rooftop terrace with fantastic city views.
