Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art

1430 Johnson Lane, Eugene, OR, 97403

Situated on the campus of the University of Oregon in Eugene, the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art is celebrated for its huge collection of pieces from around the world. There's a focus on art from the Americas, Europe, and Asia, while changing exhibitions ensure there’s often something new to see.

The basics

Along with an extensive permanent collection, the museum brings in a rotation of works from celebrated artists as part of its Shared Visions program. Past artists whose works have been displayed include Pablo Picasso, Roy Lichtenstein, Damien Hirst, and Ansel Adams. The museum also hosts plenty of special events that range from artist talks to family-focused craft programs in Spanish and English. While most visitors explore independently, free tours are offered on a monthly basis—check the website for upcoming dates.

The 20x21 Mural Project

Fans of street art will find plenty to see in Eugene thanks to the efforts of the 20x21 Mural Project, a city-led program that brought in dozens of artists from around the world—including France’s celebrated stencil artist Blek le Rat— to create murals around town. Most of these colorful murals are located downtown, just west of the Jordan Schnitzer Museum. Printed and online maps make finding the murals easy.
