Jacquemart-André Museum (Musee Jacquemart-Andre)
158 Blvd. Haussmann, Paris, Île-de-France, 75008
The Jacquemart-André Museum (Musee Jacquemart-Andre) is housed in a lavish 19th-century mansion that once belonged to Edouard André and Nélie Jacquemart, a globetrotting, art-collecting couple. It is just as famous for its Belle Epoque setting as its art collection—expect wallpapered libraries and elegant fireplaces that showcase the glamour of France’s bygone Gilded Age. The artworks also comprise a veritable treasure trove: Italian Renaissance paintings, works from Dutch masters, intricate French furniture, and medieval Islamic ceramics.
The Basics
The Musée Jacquemart-André is set up as a series of five areas—state apartments, formal apartments, the Italian Museum, private apartments, and the winter garden—with art displayed amidst historic decor and furniture. Notable pieces include paintings of Venice by Giovanni Antonio Canal (better known as Canaletto), a delicate Louis XV desk, and works by Botticelli, Donatello, and Van Dyck. In addition to the permanent collection, the Musée Jacquemart-André hosts temporary exhibitions featuring themes or single artists.
