POINT OF INTEREST

Hard Rock Cafe New Orleans

125 Bourbon St., New Orleans, LA, 70130

Surrounded by rowdy bars housed in elegant, Gallic houses adorned with wrought-iron balconies, the Hard Rock Cafe blends right into its Bourbon Street surroundings while still staying true to its all-American roots. It's all about the burger-adjacent fare, the drinks, and the music memorabilia at this branch of the famous chain.

The basics

While it may not be the most authentic spot to get the New Orleans music experience, it’s the place to go to see instruments and ephemera from musical stars such as Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong and stick around for a meal of hearty burgers served with mixed drinks. Plus, you can get a late-night meal, ideal for a bite after an evening ghost tour or a pub crawl.

Things to know before you go

  • The Hard Rock is a must-visit for those interested in music-related memorabilia.

  • Make reservations on the Hard Rock website—they’re recommended for nights or over the weekend when the café is busiest.

  • The food here is pub-style and meat-heavy, and beyond a few salads and an Impossible burger, diners with special diets may not have many choices.

  • An extensive kids menu makes this a good choice for families.

  • The café is wheelchair and stroller accessible.

How to get there

The Hard Rock is on the famous Bourbon Street at the corner of Iberville Street, just off Canal Street. If you’re staying in the French Quarter, it’s easy to walk. If you have a car, look for the parking lot on Iberville Street, near Royal Street. You can also take the St. Charles Streetcar from the Garden District.

When to get there

The Hard Rock is open daily from late morning until well into the night and is generally busiest on Friday nights. Check the website for details on live music events. Come when it first opens if you want to step in to take photos or pick up souvenirs from the gift shop.

Late-night treats at the Café du Monde

Although the Hard Rock is a great place for late-night drinking and dining, it’s certainly not your only option in New Orleans. Many restaurants in the French Quarter stay open late, including the celebrated Café du Monde, known for its pillowy, piping-hot beignets and chicory-infused coffee. Although this café used to be open 24/7, it now closes from late night to early morning.
