The Basics

Most visitors come to the garden in conjunction with a stop at the Calouste Gulbenkian Museum, situated on the garden’s grounds, although you can visit just the garden, free of charge. Some private tours of Lisbon include time at the garden on their itineraries, and hop-on hop-off busses stop nearby. If you want to visit both the garden and the museum independently, you can avoid the ticket line by prebooking admissions to the garden and museum and reserving a spot on a guided tour.

How to Get There

Enter the garden from Avenida de Berna, near the Praça de Espanha. The nearest metro stations are São Sebastião on the blue and red lines and Praça de Espanha on the blue line. The Lisbon Sightseeing: Oriente and Belém Lines of the Lisbon Sightseeing bus also stop nearby.

When to Get There

The garden is open daily from sunrise to sunset, while the adjacent Calouste Gulbenkian Museum is open from 10am to 6pm every day except Tuesday and select public holidays. Guided tours are available throughout the day, but guided group visits should be booked in advance. Special concerts and other events are sometimes held here; check the website for details.

The Calouste Gulbenkian Museum

Many visitors to the garden come here after visiting the Calouste Gulbenkian Museum, and if you have the time, it's well worth visiting the two. The museum features a large collection of art pieces and artifacts once owned by Calouste Gulbenkian, a businessman and philanthropist who sought refuge in Portugal during World War II. The museum includes ancient Egyptian and Hellenic objects and an expansive collection of European art.
