Galicia Jewish Museum

Dajwór 18, Krakow, Poland, 31-052

In Krakow’s former Jewish district of Kazimierz, the Galicia Jewish Museum pays tribute to the victims of the Holocaust and illuminates Jewish culture through exhibitions and educational programs. The museum is renowned for its collection of photographs, which captures 800 years of Jewish life in Polish Galicia. It also hosts regular concerts and cultural events.

The basics

An integral Jewish heritage site in Kazimierz, the Galicia Jewish Museum is often a stop on private tours that showcase the highlights of Krakow’s Jewish Quarter and the former Ghetto area, such as synagogues and memorials. If you want to save time on the day, prebook admission for skip-the-line entry, or visit the museum with a museum pass that grants you access to more than 30 museums and offers public transport options.

Things to know before you go

  • The museum is barrier-free, with a wide entrance hall, no stairs, and a wheelchair-accessible bathroom.

  • There is an on-site café with healthy juices and snacks.

  • Children aged six years and under can visit the museum for free.

  • The museum has a special kids’ corner area with coloring books, crayons, and toys.

  • There are baby-changing facilities on site.

How to get there

The museum is situated in the Jewish quarter of Kazimierz, which is around 20 minutes’ walk from the medieval Old Town, or a short taxi ride away. If traveling by tram, you can catch the 3, 9, 19, 24, or 50 trams to the ul. Miodowa stop, which is around a 5-minute walk away.

When to get there

The museum is typically open daily from mid-morning until early evening, but it's advisable to check the opening schedule before visiting. To avoid the crowds, it’s best to get there in the morning, as visitor numbers often peak in the afternoon. The summer months of July through August tend to be the busiest in Krakow.

Where to find other Jewish sites in Kazimierz

After exploring the Galicia Jewish Museum, there are plenty more Jewish heritage sites to explore nearby in Kazimierz. For places of worship, check out the Remuh Synagogue and Cemetery, which dates back to the 16th century. The nearby Old Synagogue is also worth a visit, as it’s thought to be one of Poland’s oldest synagogues—dating back to the 15th century.
