Enger Park
1601 Enger Tower Dr, Duluth, MN
Right off Duluth’s gorgeous Skyline Parkway, Enger Park is one of the city’s best—and largest—green spaces, with ample trails, views over Lake Superior, a golf course, gardens, and even an observation tower. A popular spot for everything from birdwatching to weddings, this natural space is a favorite with both locals and visitors alike.
Enger Park used to be called Grand Mountain, which reveals quite a bit about its landscape—this spot rises above the city on high bluffs, with excellent views across Duluth and Lake Superior. When you’re here, be sure to check out two landmarks: the American-Japanese Peace Bell, a gift from Duluth’s sister city of Ohara-Isumi, and the Enger Tower, a spot for excellent views above the water. The fabulous Superior Hiking Trail connects to the park, too.
Another cool way to see this green space is to get above it—via helicopter. You’ll be amazed at Duluth’s series of cliffs and practically endless blue waters.
Admission is always free.
The park typically closes around 10pm.
Restrooms are available at various points throughout the park.
The park has limited accessibility for wheelchairs and strollers.
Most visitors will arrive at Enger Park in their own vehicles—a free parking lot is located at the park entrance on Enger Tower Drive, and there’s another free lot further north for those heading for Enger Trail and Observation Hill. If you don’t have your own wheels, get here via taxi, rideshare, or on foot or bicycle.
The best time to visit Enger Park is typically from late spring to early fall. The park's gardens are in full bloom, and the weather is ideal for hiking and sightseeing. Early mornings or late afternoons are usually quieter, especially on weekdays, and Enger Tower offers excellent views at sunset.
From Duluth, venture out on one of America’s best scenic drives: the North Shore Scenic Byway. You’ll follow the wild, cliff-ridden edges of Lake Superior, making just-off-the-road stops at small canyons, waterfalls, and more. Multiple state parks line the way, and you’ll eventually land in cute Grand Marais—or drive all the way to Canada.
