POINT OF INTEREST

DiverCity Tokyo Plaza

1 Chome-1-10 Aomi, Koto City, Tokyo, 135-0064

DiverCity Tokyo Plaza is a large shopping mall on Odaiba, an island on reclaimed land in Tokyo Bay. It contains many clothing stores selling Japanese and international brands, a huge food court, and entertainment options. It’s a good place to have a meal or shop while exploring Odaiba’s futuristic, high-tech attractions, or if you’re seeking shelter from the weather.

The basics

Many travelers are attracted to DiverCity Tokyo Plaza by the huge Unicorn Gundam robotic character model that stands guard outside. The theme continues inside at the Gundam Base, alongside other niche Japanese attractions, including the Poop Museum (cuter than it sounds) and a Doraemon department store. There are many more mainstream stores, too. Most travelers visit independently when exploring Odaiba’s sights and it’s an especially popular lunch or dinner destination.

Things to know before you go

  • You could spend anywhere from an hour to a whole day at DiverCity Tokyo Plaza, depending on your interests, budget, and fondness for shopping.
  • Some attractions in the center have timed-entry tickets during busy times, including the popular Gundam Base.
  • Travelers wanting a change from Japanese food can enjoy Korean, Brazilian, Italian, and many other international options here.

How to get there

DiverCity Tokyo Plaza is on Odaiba Island. The closest stations are Daiba on the Yurikamome Line, and Tokyo Teleport Station on the Rinkai Line. From either station it’s just a short walk. If walking or driving, cross the Rainbow Bridge that connects Odaiba with the mainland. Travelers with their own vehicles can get free parking for four hours when making purchases in the center.

When to get there

The shops, restaurants, and food court operate at slightly different times, but most are typically open from late morning until late evening. Some operate reduced hours on weekends and public holidays. The whole center is usually closed for a few days over the end of year/new year period.

Don’t miss Odaiba’s Statue of Liberty

The enormous Unicorn Gundam outside DiverCity Tokyo Plaza isn’t Odaiba’s only larger-than-life statue: The Statue of Liberty has been greeting visitors to Odaiba since 1998. Although Liberty is much smaller than her New York City counterpart, her position low to the ground makes her appear bigger than she is. Line up some great photos with the Rainbow Bridge and Tokyo skyline in the background.
