David Collection (Davids Samling)
Kronprinsessegade 30, Copenhagen, Denmark, 1306
Housing the extensive collection of the late Danish lawyer and businessman Christian Ludvig David, this museum features a variety of Islamic art, with a hall devoted to miniatures. Other highlights found throughout the heritage building—David’s former home—include handicrafts, furniture, Danish silver, and porcelain.
The basics
C. L. David originally founded the museum in part of his home, and he made much of his extensive collection accessible to the public for decades before he died in 1960. The foundation continued its mission after his death, expanding the museum and acquiring new works from across Europe and the Muslim world, with a focus on Islamic art from the seventh to 17th centuries.

How to get there
The David Collection is on the edge of the Rosenborg Castle Gardens (Kongens Have) in central Copenhagen, and hop-on hop-off busses stop nearby. The Nørreport, Marmorkirken, and Kongens Nytorv stations of the Copenhagen Metro are within easy walking distance of the museum, and the Nyhavn (Københavns Havn) boat terminal is about a 15-minute walk.
When to get there
The David Collection is open Tuesday–Sunday throughout the year, except on Dec. 23–25 and Dec. 31. The museum closes in the early evening every day except for Wednesday when it remains open for an additional four hours. The quietest time to visit is on a Sunday morning when the museum opens its doors.
Visiting the Rosenborg Castle Gardens (Kongens Have)
The Rosenborg Castle Gardens, also known as the King's Garden, is a great place to stroll, particularly in the warmer, drier summer. This massive park features numerous sculptures and gardens alongside big, grassy lawns that are a favorite among families and picnickers. It's right next to the David Collection.
