POINT OF INTEREST

Citi Field

41 Seaver Way, Willets Point, New York City, NY, 11368

Fans of Major League Baseball (MLB) won’t want to miss a visit to Citi Field, the home stadium of the New York Mets. Built in 2009 to replace the legendary Shea Stadium—its famous “Big Apple” is still on display outside—Citi Field quickly made a name for itself, hosting All-Star and World Series games, as well as music concerts by artists from Beyoncé to Paul McCartney.

The Basics

If you’re a baseball fan, don’t miss the chance to catch a Mets game on the team’s home field. Tickets include access to the Mets Hall of Fame and Museum, where you can chart the team’s history through displays of trophies and artifacts.

While Citi Field runs its own behind-the-scenes tours, the stadium is also a popular inclusion on many New York City tours. A typical itinerary might combine sightseeing in Harlem and Brooklyn with a panoramic drive around Queens to see Citi Field and the nearby Arthur Ashe tennis stadium (home of the US Open).

Things to Know Before You Go

  • Citi Field is essential for sports enthusiasts.

  • The stadium is accessible to wheelchairs.

  • On-site facilities include restrooms, food stands, and free Wi-Fi.

How to Get There

The subway is the easiest way to reach Citi Field from Manhattan. From Penn station, take line 1, 2, or 3 to 42nd Street–Times Square, then transfer to the 7 train (line 7) to Mets–Willets Point station, just outside the stadium. Alternatively, hop on the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) from Penn to Mets–Willets. Although driving isn’t recommended, it’s possible to park in one of the stadium’s paid lots.

When to Get There

If you’re seeing a game, arrive at Citi Field at least 1.5 hours beforehand to avoid delays passing through security. To watch pregame batting practice, get there about 2.5 hours prior to the start of the game, and use the Jackie Robinson Rotunda, Hodges, and Stengel entrances.

Food and Team Memorabilia

Check out the stadium’s Mets Hall of Fame and Museum—you’ll see the team’s 1969 and 1986 World Series trophies, footage of notable feats, and more. Then, pick up a Mets jersey or cap at the Mets Team Store before heading to one of the concession stands for a bite. Citi Field is renowned for its top-notch offerings, from gourmet burgers to craft beers.

Does Citi Field have tours?

Yes, there are plenty of options for Citi Field tours, from the public non-game day tours to enhanced Grand Slam tours and even private experiences for all group sizes and ages. And, for those who don’t want to leave their home comforts, there’s a virtual stadium tour, too.

How do I meet the Mets in New York?

To meet the Mets as a proper meet-and-greet, you need to contact the booking agents Athlete Speakers, although you’ll need a deep wallet to arrange this. Otherwise, your best chance of “meeting” the Mets is to downgrade your expectations and “watch” them instead at a New York Mets baseball game.

How much do Citi Field tickets cost?

Like all Major League baseball teams, the Mets use a variable pricing model so that prices match demand. Tickets for a Citi Field baseball game in 2023 seem to range from as low as US$14 to around US$800–20,000 for premium seats and suites.

Where is the Mets Museum in Citi Field?

This large museum, known as the Mets Hall of Fame & Museum, is inside Citi Field, next to the Jackie Robinson Rotunda. The museum opens for home games (from when the gates open until the final whistle), and all fans with match tickets can enter to browse the memorabilia and videos.

What is not allowed in Citi Field?

Items not allowed in Citi Field follow a similar list to other US stadiums. Alcoholic drinks are banned, along with laser pointers, unsealed food and drink containers, and most backpacks. The bag policy is a little more lenient than elsewhere; check official info on the MLB Mets website before you go.

Is it safe to walk to Citi Field?

Citi Field isn’t in a high crime area, and if you’re going to a game, there’s sure to be plenty of people around. The neighborhood around the stadium is generally considered safe. However, when walking at night, keep your wits about you—as you would walking anywhere in the dark.
