Casino Gran Vía
Gran Vía 24, Madrid, Spain, 28013
Housed in a magnificent art deco building on Madrid’s Gran Vía, the Casino Gran Vía is one of the city’s classic entertainment spots. Built in 1924 as the headquarters of Madrid’s Trade and Industrial Circle, the casino has three floors of poker, roulette, and baccarat tables, along with slot machines, a restaurant, a bar, and a hotel, all in spectacular surroundings.
The basics
The Casino Gran Vía offers a full spectrum of table games and machines for all types of gamblers, from high-rollers to beginners. Guests enter through the grand lobby and glass-roofed atrium, from where stairs ascend to the gaming rooms. Play American roulette, baccarat, and poker; enjoy electronic versions of classic games, or sit at the spinning slots.
Visitors can enjoy the casino, bar, and restaurant independently. Some of Madrid’s hop-on, hop-off buses pass the casino as they travel the Gran Vía, enabling you to admire its extravagant exterior and check out its location. Other options include Madrid sightseeing tours with drinks or dinner at the casino.
Things to know before you go
Guests must be 18 or older and show photo ID, such as a passport, to enter the casino.
Facilities include a cloakroom, free Wi-Fi, and a restaurant, bar, and snack bar.
The casino requires smart-casual attire: guests wearing flip-flops or tracksuits and men wearing sleeveless tops risk being turned away.
How to get there
Standing on Madrid’s Gran Vía, the Casino Gran Vía is well served by public transit. Take C3 and C4 Cercanías trains from Madrid’s Atocha station to Madrid-Sol, a roughly 6-minute stroll away. Alternatively, metro lines 1 and 5 run to the Gran Vía opposite the casino, while #1, #2, #74, and #202 buses stop nearby. Several parking garages are located nearby, including the Plaza del Carmen, which sometimes offers discounts to casino visitors.
When to get there
The casino building and slot machine rooms are typically open daily from 10am to 6am, with the game tables accessible between 2pm and 6am. The restaurant welcomes diners from 1pm-1am Sunday through Wednesday and 1pm-2am Thursday through Saturday, while the bar is usually open Thursday through Sunday from 7pm-3am. Aim to visit midweek mornings, afternoons, and early evenings–the casino is typically busy in the late evening, especially at weekends.
What to see at the Casino Gran Vía
If gambling isn’t your bag, it’s still worth peeking at the casino’s glamorous interior. Highlights include the spectacular stained-glass atrium roof and central pillared staircase, which marches past gold-tipped columns to each floor. Don’t miss the Royal Hall, whose frescoes and tapestries provide an ornate backdrop to the lamplit tables.
