Cape May Winery

711 Town Bank Rd, Cape May, New Jersey

With four vineyards growing 11 different grape varietals, Cape May Winery in New Jersey also brings a unique culinary touch, with some of its farmland devoted to tomato plants, beach plums, squash, and kale. The on-site tapas kitchen serves up seasonal dishes with these ingredients, that can be paired with each of the wines. On-site educational wine tastings also offer an inside look at the production process.

Booking a tasting is a great way to visit the winery and sample some of its bottlings. During the tasting experience, you’ll be guided through six different wines while learning about the winemaking process. The tap room is another draw, with indoor and outdoor tables for enjoying tapas with your sips, plus live music on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays in the summer. Cape May Winery is often a stop on a day tour of the area’s wineries, breweries, and distilleries.

  • Guests under 21 (including toddlers and kids in strollers) are not permitted at tastings.

  • Pets are prohibited as well.

  • Tastings last 30 to 40 minutes.

  • Visitors should not walk through the vines or pick any grapes.

Cape May is on the southern tip of New Jersey, about 90 miles (150 kilometers) from Philadelphia and 158 miles (254 kilometers) from New York City. NJ Transit buses connect both cities to the town, and visitors from Delaware can hop aboard the Cape May-Lewes Ferry, which offers a shortcut route across the bay.

Cape May Winery is open year-round (except for Thanksgiving and Christmas Day). Check the website for seasonal hours and special events, such as grill nights in the summer, and to book tastings. Overall, summer is Cape May’s peak season, so expect the biggest crowds then. Fall is also a good time to explore the area’s wineries.

Known for its grand Victorian houses, this seaside resort town attracts families from New Jersey and the surrounding states looking for a relaxing summer vacation down at the shore. Here, you’ll find a range of dining options, shops, leisure activities, water sports, and attractions such as the Cape May Lighthouse, which you can climb.
