Cantillon Brewery
Rue Gheude 56, Brussels, Belgium, 1070
You could think of Cantillon Brewery as like a beer-themed time machine, transporting you back to 1900. This family-run brewery, as well as the on-site Brussels Museum if the Gueuze, meticulously preserves traditional methods to craft Lambic, Gueuze, Faro, and Kriek beers. Visitors can explore the brewing process, see century-old barrels, and best of all, taste authentic beer. It’s a must-visit for those who appreciate history, craftsmanship, and traditional Belgian beer.
The basics
Many travelers visit Cantillon Brewery and its museum during beer-themed tours of Brussels. These tours, which can be private or shared, often include stops and tastings at a variety of breweries and drinking spots around the city. For a more comprehensive culinary experience, you can opt for tours that combine beer and chocolate tastings, or beer and food tours featuring Belgian classics like mussels and waffles. Additionally, you can stop at the brewery during pub and nightlife crawls.
Things to know before you go
Due to its historical nature, some parts of the brewery are not accessible for wheelchairs, as there are wooden steps to climb to get to the barrel store and brewery hall.
You can enjoy on-site tastings and there’s also a shop where you can purchase beer and merchandise.
If you don’t want to follow a guide round, you can opt for a self-guided visit.
How to get there
Located in the Anderlecht area of southwest Brussels, it’s easy to reach Cantillon Brewery by public transport. You can take metro lines 2 or 6, or the 46 bus to Clemenceau, which is just over a 5-minute walk away. Alternatively, tram line 81 stops at Bara, around 5 minutes by foot from the brewery. For those driving, limited street parking is available nearby.
When to get there
The Cantillon Brewery is typically open from 10am to 4pm every day, except Wednesdays and Sundays when it is closed. To skip the crowds, it’s best to visit on a weekday and to prebook your tour and tasting in advance to guarantee a spot. The brewery and museum is closed on select holidays throughout the year, so it’s best to check the opening schedule before visiting.
